Love Cycles and Full Circles
Love Cycles and Full Circles is different from any project I’ve ever done in a number of ways. For one thing it’s long. Very long. A full two hours which is a good thirty minutes longer than the double albums I grew up listening to on LP. It’s my second release in one year which is something I’ve never done as well. Beyond the material facts, the content is also unique. The bulk of the music on the album chronicles a forty year personal relationship which I have never related publicly. This is despite the fact that it is the subject of most of my earliest work, from roughly 1980 to 1986. In fact instrumental versions of a number of these songs where my first published works in the early eighties. I considered these particular songs private, only intended for an audience of one. Some involve painful events in our lives that I didn’t wish either of us to have to revisit. But it’s with her encouragement and blessing that I finally decided to tell our story. However this is not entirely a history lesson. Eleven of the twenty three tracks were written two months prior to recording. Two of those are what I would call social commentary. We live in interesting times and everyone seems to have an opinion that they think should be given weight no matter how unqualified. So naturally I included my own unqualified opinions on this album. I hope you will judge them on the merits but I don’t expect you to afford them any more weight than the opinions of anyone you might meet in the street. In the end this album is a musical journey taking 3 minutes for each year travelled. I hope you enjoy taking the journey with me.

volume 1
1.All The Days
Tell me now are you feeling like I do.
Tell me how we’re together after all this time.
I never knew a love could be so strong. Deep and true.
A mystery that lives on all the days of our lives.
Tell me why when I hold you time stands still.
Should we try to start again at our age.
I never knew a love could be so strong. Deep and true.
A mystery that lives on all the days of our lives.
I see in your eyes
a dream I never realized
I still had.
I though I left it long ago, in the room, with the memory
of us.
Tell me why when I hold you years melt away.
Should I try to reclaim you once again
I never knew a love could be so strong. Deep and true.
A mystery that lives on all the days of our lives.
Tell me now are you feeling like I do.
Tell me how we’re together after all this time.
2.Lee Ann’s Song
I can say I’ve known you for over two years.
It seems like twenty.
I can say I’ve seen you grow into a woman.
I’m older too.
After all the years
After all the tears
All the sunny days
And all our wanton ways
And after all is said and done
You’re my friend girl. You’re still my friend
I wish I knew where we are going.
Perhaps you’ll tell me.
I can’t tell if you’re a sister or a lover.
But I know I love you.
After all the years
After all the tears
All the sunny days
And all our wanton ways
And after all is said and done
You’re my friend girl. You’re still my friend
I don’t know what the future holds.
Be it good or bad.
I don’t know any better way to tell you.
This song is yours Lee Ann.
After all the years
After all the tears
All the sunny days
And all our wanton ways
And after all is said and done
You’re my friend girl. You’re still my friend
3.How Love Is
Listen so softly to the sound of the wind.
You cannot hear where it starts or where it ends.
Blowing across the dreams you lost in your haste.
Gently caressing the things that you hid.
That’s how love is with you
Something that fills me through
Lets me make my dreams come true
Every night I sleep I’m dreaming of you.
Your smile, your hair, the things that I love.
It always comes to me in a river of thought.
You’re everything a man could want.
That’s how love is with me
The girl that I see
She means the world to me
Words cannot say what my heart longs to tell.
My love is coming straight from my soul.
I want to spend my life making love to you.
Together there’s no mountain we cannot climb.
That’s how love is with us
Something we’ll always trust
What separates our desire from lust
4.The Summer
Sitting alone in my car holding hands in the dark.
Roses in bloom on the fence line like our dreams
filled the summer air.
Lying alone in your room holding each other tight.
Talking for hours and hours after everyone else
went to sleep.
Sometimes at night I still dream of making love by the lake.
The shine of your eyes in the moonlight on the summer
when we fell in love.
5.Lady Shine
Lady, lady, lady fly. Up there in your own sky.
Lady, lady, lady grow. Can you tell me what you know.
Come down! You gotta come down!
Whoa - come down! To the ground.
Let us see you shine
Lady, lady, lady be. All the things that we need.
Lady, lady, lady try. To show us all how to fly.
Come down! You gotta come down!
Whoa - come down! To the ground.
Let us see you shine
Lady, lady, lady go. All the places we don’y know.
Lady, lady, lady stay. Listen to the songs I play.
Come down! You gotta come down!
Whoa - come down! To the ground.
Let us see you shine
6.Some People Say
Some people say that I’m a little out of date.
And I guess it’s true. Sometimes I feel kinda late.
I’m just fine sitting here playing what I feel.
Good or bad you know that music is for real.
I’m not saying you can’t feel that way.
Just as long as I can play
Some people say that I’m just wasting time.
But then again you know that time is all mine.
Sitting here all day only strumming my guitar.
I don’t move but my spirit travels far.
I’m not telling you to follow my way.
Just let me have my say.
Some people say I should go and find a girl.
Boy nobody needs to live alone in this world.
And I guess it’s true. Sometimes I feel a little sad.
But my life was never meant to be bad.
My golden lady is waiting out there.
I just wish I knew where.
My golden lady is waiting out there.
I just wish I knew where.
7. Malaise
There’s a malaise among us now. And we barely know.
A festering smell in our face. We pay no mind as it grows.
We get no answers from leaders or saints.
The thinkers think they are immune.
The worlds they make are devoid of truth. Abstractions never truly real.
They gleefully dance along the chasm where Pythagoras and Plato fell.
The value keepers who talk so loud seem to have so few.
They sell a hollow paper god Jesus and Mohammad never knew.
They’ve never felt the breathe of god on a mountain side.
Never seen eternity gazing into a mustard seed.
Their faith as dry as a pharasee’s scroll.
Dead as the letters on the pages they read.
The quality Pirsig talked about can’t seem to be found.
The I don’t give a fuck disease is the only thing around.
But you can never fault the prophets. They’re not the ones who fail.
He gave us a frail rope to cling to in a world gone off the rails.
In a world of the blind the one eyed man weeps for us all.
But you can never fault the prophets. They’re not the ones who fail.
They give us a frail ropes to cling to in a world gone off the rails.
And in our world of the blind the one eyed man weeps for us all.
8. Listen My Love
Listen my love. I have something to tell you.
It’s been a long time since I wrote a song for you.
I don’t sing to you like I should
I’d stay with you always if I could
Just remember I love you
I’ve heard the stories of old about lovers serenading each other
I noticed I don’t say enough I love no other.
I don’t sing to you like I should
I’d stay with you always if I could
Just remember I love you
I know sometimes we disagree. Babe that doesn’t mean a thing.
Because I won’t have any argument when I bring your wedding ring.
I don’t sing to you like I should
I’d stay with you always if I could
Just remember I love you. I love you.
9.The Girl With Raven Eyes
I once met a girl with deep raven eyes.
She never said a word, just took my hand.
We made love all of the day and into the night.
She danced for me under the moonlight/
Then she was gone.
I climbed every mountain.
I searched every field from dusk till dawn.
I cried to the heavens.
I cried in the wilderness alone.
I’ve had many loves since that day.
Each one sweet and young as the morning sun.
But still I dream of the girl with deep raven eyes.
Still smell the sweetness of her hair on my chest
I climbed every mountain.
I searched every field from dusk till dawn.
I cried to the heavens.
I cried in the wilderness alone.
I looked for my lady, my beautiful lady. I never knew her name.
I looked for my dancer, my starlight dancer. I don’t know why she came.
But I love her. Just the same.
Do you know of the girl with raven eyes?
Please tell her I still wait down by the wood.
Still dream of touching her soft, long black hair.
Still see her dance in the moonlight until the break of dawn.
I climbed every mountain.
I searched every field from dusk till dawn.
I cried to the heavens.
I cried in the wilderness alone.
I looked for my lady, my beautiful lady. I never knew her name.
I looked for my dancer, my starlight dancer. I never knew why she came.
But I love her. Just the same.
I love her. Just the same.
10.Come Home
I’ve been looking for inspiration. It always flies away from me.
But pain has brought me a reason to sing for you again.
How can I tell you I need you?
When you’re far away from me?
Blue seems to suit me. It goes with the emptiness inside.
I dream of holding you in the night. In the morning I weep for losing you.
How can I tell you I love you?
When I can’t even touch you?
Lover I would give my life to you. Just to hold you in my arms.
Lee Ann I’ve come to see you’re everything. Each day I live is a lifetime without you.
Please come home to me.
Where love waits for you.
Please come home to me.
Where love waits for you.
11.Long Time
How long has it been since you loved me?
How long has it been since you really held me?
It’s been a long time
It’s been a long time
Do you still love me or do you think you don’t?
Why can’t you love me even when I smoke?
It’s been a long time
It’s been a long time
Pure love is what I gave you.
What did you give me? Strings and conditions.
It’s been a long time
It’s been a long time
Either way I get hurt.
But you’re the loser if you try to change me.
It’s been a long time
It’s been a long time
How long has it been since you loved me?
How long has it been since you really held me?
It’s been a long time
It’s been a long time
12.Requiem
When I’m alone I often wonder why you left and tore my world apart.
And I wonder how you feel. Why you betrayed the promises you made.
All your life you’ll be alone. Even when you have someone to call your own.
Baby can’t you see?
You had the best with me.
The best friend you’ll ever have and you threw it all away,
on a dream.
You made me feel like a loser. You say you care but words can lie.
But you’re the only loser. Love to you is just a fleeting moment.
Love is just an illusion if there’s no honor to preserve it.
Baby can’t you see?
You had the best with me.
The best friend you’ll ever have and you threw it all away,
on a dream.
How cold your heart must be. Locked deep inside the fortress that you built.
I thought love was the key to unlock the door your hiding behind.
Now you’ll never know the light. Your heart is chained from taking flight.
Baby can’t you see?
You had the best with me.
The best friend you’ll ever have and you threw it all away,
on a dream.
Baby can’t you see?
You had the best with me.
The best friend you’ll ever have and you threw it all away,
on a dream.
volume 2
1.Moving On
I used to think that little girl was all I had.
I thought without her I’d always be sad.
But she’s gone now and I’m the same man.
I’ll play and write the best, best I can.
I know another girl with beautiful eyes.
And when I think about her I begin to realize.
There’s plenty of room in this heart.
I’ll find a place for love, love to start.
I’m gonna find that girl and make her my own.
I’ll put her on my bike so together we can roam.
We’ll ride till the sun goes away.
Then make love till the break, break of day.
We’ll ride till the sun goes away.
Then make love till the break, break of day.
2.Your Freedom
Watching the drops of rain fall on my window pane.
Your face appears in my mind like a dream.
The I have loved for so long so quickly was gone.
The emptiness of my heart can’t be filled.
You left me for your freedom but you had it all along.
You thought I wanted to bind you. You were wrong.
And now you don’t recall I taught you all I could.
How to fight for your freedom like you should.
A lonely child I once knew grew into a woman that’s you.
All promises made can be forgotten.
In my heart I know the child still lives inside.
And time will reveal the love you’ve forgotten.
You left me for your freedom but you had it all along.
You thought I wanted to bind you. You were wrong.
And now you don’t recall I taught you all I could.
How to fight for your freedom like you should.
Time has a way of revealing the truths we fail to see.
Only a few can know like me.
I don’t blame you for doing foolish things people do.
There is no blame, no right or wrong to our story.
You left me for your freedom but you had it all along.
You thought I wanted to bind you. You were wrong.
And now you don’t recall I taught you all I could.
How to fight for your freedom like you should.
3.Life Is A Game
Every night and every day I sit at home alone and I play.
And sometimes the loneliness begins to creep into my chest.
I hi, I hi
Yesterday I saw a girl, long brown hair in a curl.
And as she walked away she looked at me as if to say
I hi, I hi
Life is game we play by different rules.
As soon as you win, then you’re ready to lose.
That made me think about a girl I knew and all the pain she put me through.
And her love I don’t regret. Sometimes you just take what you get.
I hi, I hi
I think of all the people I know and the poisoned seeds they sow.
They grow their pain up so tall then reap sorrow in the fall.
I hi, I hi
Life is game we play by different rules.
As soon as you win, then you’re ready to lose.
Life is game we play by different rules.
As soon as you win, then you’re ready to lose.
4.Undertow
Like a shadow you come through my door.
Silently moving across the floor.
Turn on the light and you’re gone again.
Mumbling words about being a friend
Like a current in the ocean
Deeper than we can know
It will catch you unaware
Like an undertow
Like an undertow
Like a ghost you haunt my every thought.
Looking to see what your pain has wrought.
We both say our love is dead and gone.
But something inside keeps hanging on.
Like a current in the ocean
Deeper than we can know
It will catch you unaware
Like an undertow
Like an undertow
Time passes like a train in the dark.
Just the sound and an occasional spark.
It’s been a year since you left me alone.
So what keeps you calling on the phone?
Like a current in the ocean
Deeper than we can know
It will catch you unaware
Like an undertow
Like an undertow
Like a current in the ocean
Deeper than we can know
It will catch you unaware
Like an undertow
Like an undertow
5.You Still Love Me
When I sleep I’m alone with you. When I wake I wish your love was true.
But I’m alone in every way. You left me with so much to say.
I long for the sweetness that I knew. But bitterness always comes through.
I think about you all the time. It hurts to know you’re not mine.
But I love you even though you hurt me.
Maybe I’m a fool or maybe I can see.
You still love me
I know that we love each other. More than friends or even lovers.
You’re just too blind to see. What you had with me.
You confuse love with infatuation. That’s what caused this tragic situation.
You’ve been blind before and I can wait a few years more.
Because I love you even though you hurt me.
Maybe I’m a fool or maybe I can see.
You still love me
You shake your head and say I’m wrong. Bit I’ve known you too long.
I’m older in more than years. My love has survived all the tears.
You think I’m a fool to love you. Maybe two fools like us can compromise and adjust.
Because I love you even though you hurt me.
Maybe I’m a fool or maybe I can see.
You still love me
6.The Symmetry Of Your Heart
Haven’t you ever noticed that time doesn’t change the truest deepest part of us.
We still feel the same.
You were the very start of me. A part that never dies.
I still see my younger self reflected in your eyes
Cry like a child that wants to quit the womb.
Cry to heaven you want to leave the tomb.
The symmetry of your heart breaks along a line.
The symmetry of your heart doesn’t know about time.
If I could paint broken glass what would I find?
The pictures of our lives fractured over time.
Long ago we were two, then became I.
Spiritual, immutable, love cast in a die.
Cry like a child that wants to quit the womb.
Cry to heaven you want to leave the tomb.
The symmetry of your heart breaks along a line.
The symmetry of your heart doesn’t know about time.
Wheels keep moving and life travels on.
I don’t know what I’m saying in all my little songs.
Some days I write tragedies, others serenades.
I don’t know who I’m writing for but it fills all my days.
Cry like a child that wants to quit the womb.
Cry to heaven you want to leave the tomb.
The symmetry of your heart breaks along a line.
The symmetry of your heart doesn’t know about time.
7.Timeless
Timeless are our days
We spend together now and then
Timeless are your ways
When I see you smile again
And life would be so much easier
If only you could stay
And life would be so much easier
If I could only say
Please come home
Timeless are the nights
We once shared long ago
Timeless is the touch I feel
When I close my eyes and dream
And life would be so much easier
If only you could stay
And life would be so much easier
If I could only say
Please come home
We were promised forever
But it’s taking so long
Will I ever kiss your lips
Again
Timeless is the way
I’ve always felt about you
Timeless is your breathe
Your hair in my hands
And life would be so much easier
If only you could stay
And life would be so much easier
If I could only say
Please come home
8.Rise Above
Rise above me. Fly straight up to the sky.
Try to love me. I’ll fly you higher than high,
And the dreams that we spoke of . That we spoke of, long ago.
Aren’t as far as we thought then. As far as we thought then. So long ago
Rise above.
Rise above it. It can’t hurt you anymore.
Try to love it. See the purpose. What it was for.
And all the time you thought you wasted. You didn’t waste it after all.
All the good love you found there. You found there after all.
Rise above
Rise above me. Fly straight to the clouds.
Try to love me. I’ll fly you straight to the clouds.
And all the dreams that we spoke of. We still speak of even now.
And all the things we hoped for. We still hope for even now.
Rise above
Rise above
9.Now
You’ve got to be somewhere, I’ve got to be nowhere.
We need something in-between.
I’m here with someone, you’re there with no one.
It’s always the same old scene.
Our dreams can be lovely, but I really need to see you now.
Time is the enemy. You’ve got to befriend me now.
It’s too cold at your place, no good at my place.
We need something in-between.
Parents need me to come round, you’ve got the kids down.
It’s always the same old scene.
Our dreams can be lovely, but I really need to see you now.
Time is the enemy. You’ve got to get with me now.
Our dreams can be lovely, but I really need to see you now.
Time is the enemy. You’ve got to get with me now.
Right now
Right now
10.Summer Love
Days like this I still remember. It’s like a mist clearing from my mind.
I fell in love the first time I met you. You were thirteen, the sister of a friend.
Summer wind still blows through.
And summer sand still feels like you.
I lost myself, it’s true,
in your smile.
Sometimes they say we end where we began. But I don’t know if that’s true.
Then again life can’t be un-lived. Part of me will always be there with you.
Summer wind still blows through.
And summer sand still feels like you.
I lost myself, it’s true,
in your arms.
Be my summer love again
Be my summer love again
I’m older now and life has been good. Many loves and loved in return.
But none as sweet as every kiss from you. The curve of your lips, I still tremble and burn.
Summer wind still blows through.
And summer sand still feels like you.
I lost myself, it’s true,
in your smile.
Be my summer love again
Be my summer love again
Be my summer love again.
Be my summer love again.
Be my summer love again.
11.The Chimney Song
These times are stranger than any I’ve ever seen.
Like your favorite movie but someone changed the scenes.
Everybody’s lost, they don’t know who they are.
They’re just hoping they don’t fall too far.
There’s nothing more sad than a country without a dream.
Nothing more empty than a land no one will share.
When everything’s forsaken and the house has burned to the ground.
There’s nothing more lonely than a chimney
without a home.
Is it just heartbreak or some kind of disease?
Maybe we just all got too hard to please.
We’ve been searching everywhere high and low.
What we’re looking for, no one seems to know.
There’s nothing more sad than a country without a dream.
Nothing more empty than a land no one will share.
When everything’s forsaken and the house has burned to the ground.
There’s nothing more lonely than a chimney
without a home.
Will we ever get back to what we used to be?
No time soon as far as I can see.
I guess I’ll keep walking. What else can I do?
Until I bend down, find a hole in my shoe.
There’s nothing more sad than a country without a dream.
Nothing more empty than a land no one will share.
When everything’s forsaken and the house has burned to the ground.
There’s nothing more lonely than a chimney
without a home.
